The Oscars: An Equal Playing Field?

The 87th Academy Awards projected a few surprises into the spotlight on Sunday 22nd February, when controversial comments from some of Hollywood’s leading ladies focused people’s attention very firmly on the issues of equalities and diversity.

The #Askhermore campaign, backed by Reese Witherspoon and Julianne Moore, was designed to encourage journalists to ask actresses on the red carpet something a bit more meaningful than “Who are you wearing?”

Perhaps the highlight of the evening was Patricia Arquette’s moving acceptance speech which touched on equality for all women involved in the industry and beyond: “We have fought for everybody’s equal rights, it’s our time to have wage equality once and for all and equal rights for women in the United States.”

Diversity and Inclusion  is a challenging subject in the workplace; often emotive and difficult to address. AKD’s Equally Yours learning experience uses these challenges to explore a range of honest scenarios, encouraging employees to talk about them in an engaging and constructive manner to achieve real change within organisations.
