Assata Owens is AKD’s new Head of Region for the Caribbean and is a specialist facilitator in the areas of leadership and management development, organizational development, innovation and enterprise.

Background

Assata is a highly experienced international training facilitator, curriculum developer, lecturer, coach and entrepreneur with her work having taken her to Europe, the Caribbean, USA, Ghana and Nigeria over the last 15 years.
A Social Policy graduate, she completed her MA in the UK at Warwick University and has lectured at Universities across the UK for over 12 years, working extensively within higher and further education including University of Birmingham and Birmingham City University.

As a freelance trainer and consultant Assata has worked with a variety of organisations to develop effective learning and development solutions including local government within the UK and the Race Equality Foundation.

In Ghana she was the founder and CEO of the Academy for Management and Leadership-Ghana (AMaL-G) which was the only Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM -UK) Centre. Out of this enterprise came the Association for the Empowerment of Women Entrepreneurs (AfEWE Africa), and the Business and Enterprise Development and Innovation Centre (BEDIC) which acted as an incubator for start-ups and innovative business concepts.
