Emma Mortimer is our specialist facilitator for designing and delivering courses relating to Safeguarding Adults at Risk and Mental Capacity.

She has been part of Team AKD since 2008.


Emma has over 20 years experience in social care and health.

Since 2006 she has been a Safeguarding Partnership Manager for a Yorkshire Safeguarding Adults Board and local authority. Her role here is extensive and comprehensive:

  • Supporting and advising the strategic direction of the Board;
  • Managing a team providing advice and best practice guidance on safeguarding adult matters;
  • Managing the training and workforce development function;
  • Facilitating training.

Emma manages quality assurance processes, conducts audits, and oversees a number of complex investigations. She works with partner agencies to raise standards, manage risk, and develop joint systems and processes. She commissions Safeguarding Adults Reviews and ensures learning is communicated to and embedded within services that require it.

Emma’s has extensive enquiry and investigative experience. She has managed Serious Case Reviews, Domestic Homicide Reviews and historical child abuse enquiries.

Prior to this Emma was the Customer Care Manager for theRoyal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea and was responsible for managing complaints in Housing, Adult Social Care and Children Social Care.

Emma has a degree in History and Politics and a Diploma in Health and Social Care Management.

The depth of her background and level of involvement in this sector enables Emma to facilitate some very challenging courses and related matters, in a way in which delegates feel safe, can reflect and have an honest discourse. This very special skill set brings people together, to keep them positive and focused.
